About Emma:
Work and play blend together in her daily life. Yoga, teaching, dancing, running, cycling and swimming; Emma moves between these activities fluidly. This lifestyle is evident in her yoga instruction where Emma's Iyengar-based approach incorporates a style of unique sequencing, fluid movement and hands-on adjustments. She has explored the movement therapies of Pilates and Feldenkrais yet always returns to her passion: Yoga.
In the last five years her practice and teaching has been profoundly influenced by her study of the Ashtanga Vinyasa tradition. Currently she integrates the depth of alignment of the Iyengar system with the breath and flow focus of the Ashtanga system, synthesizing the beauty and wisdom of both systems to facilitate the process of quieting the fluctuations of the mind. She encourages students to do their best in the moment and has faith that a practice done consistently and consciously will open the individual to their own potential. She uses compassion, honesty and a light hearted sense of humor to help students cultivate a passion for yoga.
Emma has competed in running events (four marathons, including two top age group finishes) and triathlons. She has helped train (and stretch out) runners, professional volleyball players, cyclists, hikers and triathletes. Emma is a Planet Yoga certified instructor and has offered her services as a personal trainer/fitness coach both privately and at Physical Focus in Santa Barbara California. She now works with private clients for yoga and personal training in addition to teaching a flow yoga class at the Santa Barbara Athletic Club and pre-natal yoga at the Santa Barbara Yoga Center. She holds an M.A. in Communication and balances her active lifestyle by teaching Communication based skills as a Professor at Santa Barbara City College.
